Dec 30 2012

Once again, Burklee made our day again!  We show up to her 10 am Care Giving (which a care giving happens every 3 hours) to find that she no longer needs any air assistance at all.  100% breathing on her own with really good oxygen levels in her blood. She has been upped to 3cc of food every 3 hrs from 2cc and will continue an additional cc every 12 hours.  After going over all the specifics with the Nurse Practitioner she said quote "Don't hold me to this, but at this rate if Burklee runs this same course for the next six weeks, I see no problem with her going home by then!!! Hooray! Go Burklee!  Nickole was able to hold her once again which really needed to happen due to Nickole crying the night before because she missed her so much.  Even though we had just left her.  Burklee is back under the Billi light, but only till her slightly elevated levels come back down.  Her skin still has good color, and i swear her hair is getting longer already!  Our hearts ache at the thought of having to leave her tomorrow when Cole is dicharged.  After telling that to her nurse, she mentioned that above Burklee's incubator is a webcam!  Yes, we get to peek in on her when we please.  Watch the Care givings take place or even to just watch her sleep, all from the comfort of our home.  Not much solace for Cole but it will have to do when we can't be with her.  We are just so greatful that the personel in the NICU at McKay-Dee Hospital is by far the best place to be for our daughter in this stage of her life.   They will draw blood from Nickole one last time in the morning and more than likely discharge her after they get the results back.  Her levels have almost returned to normal safe levels.  We just hope and pray that things continue to progress in our favor.  We thank you all for your love and support.

Dec 29, 2012

Today was once again another great and busy day.  They drew more blood from Nickole this morning and got test results back.  All levels were going the direction that they wanted to see.  And now are looking to discharge on the 30th instead if the 31st.  But Nickole doesn't want to be discharged because she will lose her room and have to leave Burklee till next weekend.  This little girl has brought so many happy tears the past few days.  This bump in the road we thought was going to just spin our lives out of control has instead been quite the oppisite.  What a blessing she has been to our lives, even before her time hear on earth.  She has taught us that their really is more to life than dirtbikes and snowmobiles!  I had no idea that I could have such a BIG crush on such a LITTLE girl!  Today we filed for a birth certificate and SS# and got her cute very little hands and feet inked! We also both had the chance to hold Burklee skin against skin.  WOW!!  To feel her little heart beat and breath on top of you is truely an amazing feeling. We love that the doctors want us to do this because the bond you make with your child through this action is undescribeble.  Burklee continues to fascinate us and make it harder on us to leave her even though we are only minutes away.  OOhh!! And I gave Burklee her/my very first fathers blessing today!  What a good day!

Bright and early, Nickole and her nurses, so cleverly tried to sneak Nickole out of her room without wakeing me so that she could catch up on alone time with Burklee.  Since the day before I got to spend more alone time with her due to Nickole being bed ridden.  So Friday was a very good day for Nickole and baby Burklee.  Nickole got to eat her first solid meal and shower since Wed.  We held Burklee for the first time bundled up in a blanket and only for a half hour due to her being so skinny with no fat.  She loses her body heat so fast outside the incubater. All through the day we had visiters from Grandmas and Grandpas, Aunts and Uncles, friends and even our awesome bishop Dunkley and his wife.  Grandma Susan decorated our room with a few snowflakes, while we were out.  We are so blessed to have the love and support of such great family and friends.  Thank you for everyones thoughts and prayers, they have been felt and greatly appreciated.

HELLP Syndrome- Hemolysis (breakdown of red bloodcells), Elevated Liver enzymes, Low Platelets
Cure for HELLP Syndrome: Terminate pregnancy

Dec 26 2012
Nickole Started having symtoms of HELLP Syndrome Wednesday afternoon about 3 pm which consisted of what felt like heart burn.  After Tums and a hot leighthy shower were no help to the HELLP problem we were on our way to the ER.  Galstones were a possibility and later ruled out, Hepatitis was ruled out.  After hours of poking and prodding found that her Liver was in distress and swelling.  Causing the pain in the middle of her upper and lower right Abdoman.

Thats when the Doctors Started talking about getting us to McKay Dee Hospital in Ogden Ut for the possibility of an early delivery.  Being sent to Ogden would assure that mom and baby could spend their first days in the same hospital and not be seperated.  Around 10 pm i was sent home in a panic to pack what i could to be prepaired for the next week that was to come.  10:30 and Cole was loaded  into an ambulance while i followed over the mountian and threw the snow all the way to Ogden.  Upon arriving at McKay Dee there was more blood work and labs to see where her liver enzyme and platelet counts were.  The results were not what we wanted to see but far from safe for Nickole to remain pregnant anymore.

Burklee Cruze NewMyer was born weighing in at 2lbs 8oz and 15in long.  Took her first breath and immediatly started letting us know she wasn't comfortable.  So while Nickole was getting sewn back together Burklee had a handfull of specialists taking care of her needs.  I now know why we were sent here.. The staff here at the NICU is THE BEST!!  If anyone ever wanted a premie baby they should plan on McKay Dee! ;)  They really have made this experiance that much easier to bare.  Burklee was off all assisted elavated oxygen within a day of birth.  She really is a spunky little fighter.  So strong willed and pushing to do better.  We're told to expect her in the NICU at least till her due date of March 14 2013, but have high expectations of an early discharge.
